While education, pension reform dominated, legislative session still had plenty going on

By Kelly Boggs, Baptist Message Editor, Director of the LBC Office of Public Affairs BATON ROUGE – The 2012 session of the Louisiana Legislature wrapped up on June 4. While the session was dominated by Governor Bobby Jindal’s efforts at education and pension reform, there were many other pieces of legislation that were introduced by Louisiana’s representatives and senators. The Louisiana Baptist Convention’s Office of Public Affairs (OPA) was on-hand during the session to represent the values of the 1,60-plus churches that comprise the convention. These values have been expressed through the years via resolutions passed at LBC annual meetings. Following are a summary of specific bills and the action the OPA took in representing the values of the LBC. The bills are in no particular order. HB indicates a bill that originated in the House of Representative and SB a bill originating in the Senate. The author of the legislation is indicated inside the parentheses.
