First Baptist Norco becomes GuideStone’s first P&C insurance church in Louisiana

October 15, 2018

By Roy Hayhurst, GuideStone Communications

DALLAS — Representatives of GuideStone® honored First Baptist Church of Norco, as it became the first property and casualty insurance customer served by the Southern Baptist entity in the state of Louisiana.

GuideStone, through its alliance with Brotherhood Mutual Insurance Company, began serving as an insurance agent in the Bayou State this year. While the alliance is nationwide, GuideStone serves as a Brotherhood Mutual agent in Texas, Louisiana and Alabama.

“Since 2012, we have found the alliance with Brotherhood Mutual to be beneficial for the churches we are privileged to serve,” GuideStone President O.S. Hawkins said. “We are committed to providing a comprehensive solution to churches from an organization committed to their ministry success. We hear regularly from churches that they have struggled to find good insurance solutions from companies committed to their church.

“We hear often about dramatic coverage gaps and high deductibles. Through our alliance, we’re able to offer these benefits to protect churches and ministries well,” Hawkins continued.  “As an added bonus, many are finding this better service and benefits at a potentially better price. We are thankful for First Baptist Norco and look forward to serving them and many other churches in Louisiana with their church insurance needs.”

First Baptist Church of Norco, situated about 25 miles west of New Orleans in St. Charles Parish, had pieced together its church insurance coverage from another carrier before moving its coverage to GuideStone and Brotherhood Mutual.

First Norco pastor Shane Dismuke

Pastor Shane Dismuke appreciated the focus GuideStone put on being good stewards of the church’s money, offering strong liability coverage and a lower windstorm deductible than they had sought.

“GuideStone has blessed our church with a policy that meets our needs,” Pastor Shane Dismuke said. “The policies are church/ministry focused, which helps us to have the security to do ministry while knowing that they have us covered if a need were to arise.

“Better yet, they do this with excellent service and better pricing than every other company that our church compared,” he said. “Kevin Dickard, our rep, went above and beyond — staying in touch with us during the process, even while on vacation. We are beyond pleased.”

Serving churches through property and casualty coverage is part of GuideStone’s ministry assignment from Southern Baptists. GuideStone serves more than 1,300 churches with their church insurance needs, including risk management, mission travel insurance, disaster recovery planning and protecting the physical and other assets of the church.
