Wildcats Media earns recognition at SPJ’s Diamond Journalism Awards

PINEVILLE, Louisiana (LCUnews) – Alena Noakes and Sam Miller were recognized for their work at the June 30 2022 Diamond Journalism competition.

The regional competition, sponsored by the Arkansas Pro Chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists, honor journalism excellence among professionals and students from seven states (Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, Oklahoma, Tennessee and Texas.

Noakes, a December 2021 graduate in convergence media-journalism from Grant Paris, won in the Student – Photo Portfolio. The judge commented her winning entry was a ‘fantastic collection of photos with a variety of subjects, lighting and techniques.

Miller, a junior art major from Alexandria, took top honors in the Student – Graphics/Illustrations. It was LCU’s first-ever award for editorial cartoons. The judge said Miller’s entry “provided the right balance between disbelieve and side-snarkiness at a newsy topic that all can relate to.

This year’s competition, for work published or broadcast in 2021, drew 379 entries in more than 80 categories.
