GAs have been collecting supplies for missionaries Steve and Ann Corbin at the Global Maritime Ministries in New Orleans for their Christmas in August project. Bags were distributed to Sunday school classes for the donations which ranged from toiletries to tube socks and underwear. Bob Heustess is pastor.
The SonRisers of First Baptist Minden have been involved in the Pennies for Gypsy Children in Romania and Feed the Children Ministry in Nicaragua projects during the summer months. Beginning this month, they will add a partnership with Lakeside Baptist New Orleans in providing supplies for the church’s Preschool/Children’s Ministries. A Pisgah Baptist Bernice mission team traveled to Houma recently for a summer mission project and joined several other North Louisiana churches in an outreach to the downtown Monroe homeless called the Desiard Street Outreach. On every fourth Saturday of a five Saturday month, they prepare a simple meal and hand out clothing, toiletries, Bibles and tracts to those in need in the community. Most of the recipients are women and children who live in the Salvation Army and Desiard Street Shelters. The church accepts donations of toiletries and clothing for the project.
The District Eight Baptist Convention announced its World Missions Celebration at Clara Springs Baptist Camp for 10 a.m. Saturday, September 13. Local volunteer missionaries who have served throughout Louisiana, the nation and around the world in the past year are to gather at that time to share displays, pictures and testimonies. The district provided 40 scholarships for children to attend camp at Clara Springs summer camps. Lee Dickson is director of missions.
The Brownsville Mission Team of First Baptist Blanchard continues to support a family in that area whose home was hit by a hurricane and partially destroyed by fire. There are three children in the family who will need winter clothes, tennis shoes and school supplies.
First Baptist Tullos Mission Friends and Kids in Action will be sending items collected during their Christmas in August event to the Friendship House in New Orleans which houses women and children. They collected diapers, baby wipes, ziploc bags, backpacks, notebooks, loose leaf paper, composition notebooks, tablets and pocket folders. Scott Smith is pastor.

Trinity Baptist Natchitoches reports an excellent mission trip to Bradshaw Mountain, West Virginia where the mission team of 18 renovated a commercial kitchen and transformed it into a kitchen for the Bradshaw Mountain Community Baptist Church.
