Georgia Barnette helps tell state: Louisiana Baptists are ‘Here for you’

September 12, 2019

By John Kyle, Louisiana Baptists communication director ALEXANDRIA (LBM)– In February 2019, the Louisiana Baptist Convention, with help from the Georgia Barnette Stat Missions Offering, launched a statewide evangelistic media campaign, “Here for You,” and people have been responding: -- “Is there any sin too big for forgiveness?” -- “How do I get God’s peace?” -- “I want an encounter with God that will change me forever.” “Since April of this year, more than 2,000 people have viewed the Gospel presentation on HereforYou.org and 376 of those online visitors have indicated some sort of decision for Christ,” said John Kyle, director of communications for Louisiana Baptists. Springing from a recommendation in the “Final Report” of the LBC President’s 2020 Commission, “Here for You” conducted pilot campaigns in three of Louisiana’s seven markets prior to the statewide release in February. “We launched the first pilot in mid-2014 in southwest Louisiana and moved to northeast Louisiana in late 2014 through early 2015,” Kyle continued. “Southeast Louisiana was the site of the third pilot campaign which was launched in conjunction with the 10th anniversary of Hurricane Katrina in August of 2015.” According to … [Read more...]

9-11 responder recounts salvation decisions

September 11, 2019

ADDIS, La. (LBM)--On Sept. 11, 2001, then Lt. Jerry Sillcocks, a member of the New York City Fire Department, lost a number of friends who died in the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center. But his grief is soothed in part from knowing he will one day see several co-workers who professed Christ as Lord after he shared the Gospel with them only months earlier. Sillcocks, who now is a captain with the fire department, shared his testimony during two worship services at the Church at Addis in the Baton Rouge area Sept. 9. He said life can end unexpectedly just like it did for his fellow firefighters who perished in just a few seconds that day 18 years ago. “The Bible says if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, you will be saved,” he said. “That’s how easy it is. God made it easy for people like me and God changed my heart because I needed it. It’s that easy. Who’s Jesus to you?” Watch a video of Sillcocks' testimony by clicking below: https://youtu.be/NnYiSmgvTTg … [Read more...]
