Louisiana Baptists fellowship, pray, conduct business

(LBM) – Louisiana Baptists enjoyed fellowship and worship during the 2024 LBC Annual meeting, Nov. 12, hosted by Broadmoor Baptist Church, Shreveport. BUDGET APPROVED Messengers approved the 2025 financial plan based on Cooperative Program contributions of $17,380,808, a decrease of $699,761, or 3.87 percent. Cooperative Program projections are based on actual receipts from August 2023 through July 2024. The allocation formula for distributing CP gifts between Southern Baptist entities and Louisiana Baptist causes remains unchanged, 62.87 percent to support ministries in the state and 37.13 percent forwarded to fund national entities. MOTIONS Messengers considered four motions, unanimously approving one that established a day of prayer for Louisiana Christian University on the first Sunday in February (submitted by Terry Young, pastor, Airline Baptist Church, Bossier City). Young submitted two other motions regarding LCU. He withdrew one motion that asked Louisiana Baptists to use prayer, more funding, and student recruiting to reaffirm their dedication to and partnership with the school. Trump wins second term

By Baptist Message staff WASHINGTON (LBM) – Donald Trump will return to the White House after he won a second term as president of the United States. According to multiple news outlets, Trump secured the 270th electoral vote needed to secure victory in the early morning hours of Nov. 6. At 1 p.m. Wednesday, Trump was leading challenger and current Vice President Kamala Harris 292-224, according to the Associated Press. The win comes after Trump survived two assassination attempts earlier this year. One occurred July 13, after a bullet pierced the upper part of his right ear during a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. And on Sept. 15, a gunman’s plot to assassinate Trump at his golf club in West Palm Beach, Florida, was stopped. “We’re going to make our country better than it ever has been,” Trump said in his victory speech. “Many people have told me that God spared my life for a reason, and that reason was to save our country and to restore America to greatness. Two faculty members receive endowed professorships

By Elizabeth Clarke, LCU News PINEVILLE, La. (LCU News) - Louisiana Christian University honored two faculty members with endowed professorships during its Founders Day Chapel service, Nov. 5. George Alecusan, assistant professor of political science, was awarded the Hogan Family Professor of Political Science. Aluscan is a constitutional scholar with a deep understanding of the American federal system of government. He majored in both political science and history at Ashland University in Ohio.  He went on to earn a master's degree and doctoral degree at the University of Dallas.  He is a contributor of a chapter on John C. Calhoun to a textbook on American political thought. John Wang, associate professor of mathematics, was awarded the Carolyn Adams Dawson Professorship in Mathematics.  Wang is a native of China and brings a wealth of mathematical knowledge to LCU.  He holds master's and doctoral and M.S. degrees in mathematics from the University of Mississippi and a master's degree in operations research and cybernetics from Central China Normal University. Speaker Johnson encourages Louisiana Baptists during three church visits

(LBM) – Hours before the 2024 presidential election, Speaker Mike Johnson paid visits to three Louisiana Baptist churches to thank them for their prayers and encourage them to continue the fight for Judeo-Christian values. “We’re at a crossroads as a nation and the foundations are being destroyed,” Johnson said during a visit to Airline Baptist Church, Bossier City, Nov. 3. He also spoke at First Baptist Church, Haughton, and Plain Dealing Baptist Church. “It’s as if the metaphorical walls of the city have been burned to the ground and foreigners from outside are coming and having the spoils,” he continued. “We’re past the point of just a contest between Republicans and Democrats anymore. Anatomage table a ‘game changer’ for LCU biology

(LCU News) - Louisiana Christian University has received an Anatomage table, a piece of equipment that is a game changer for students studying biological sciences. The Anatomage table is the most advanced real-human-based medical education system, according to its website. This state-of-the-art platform offers digitized human cadavers and superior medical learning tools, transforming medical education and training. By incorporating the Anatomage table, institutions can enhance learning outcomes, lower laboratory costs, and establish technological leadership. The $105,000 table was part of a grant award from the Delta Workforce Grant Program for 2024. “The Anatomage table includes high-resolution digitized images of actual bodies,” LCU Biology Profressor Wade Warren said. “They took cadavers, cryo-treated them and made microlevel sections from head to toe.” Ethan Lanford, senior biology and chemistry major from Pineville, said he can’t say enough about how helpful the addition of the Anatomage table will be to the LCU Biology Department and for future students. “In the past, we had to learn the hard way with minimal technology in the anatomy lab,” Lanford said. … [Read more...]
