Former LSU baseball player Warren Morris to address students at LC

September 9, 2016

By Norm Miller, Louisiana College communications

PINEVILLE (LCNews) – Louisiana College’s Division of Business will host several leaders of Red River Bank on Sept. 13.

Warren Morris – Red River Bank’s assistant vice president – will address students during a plenary session in LC’s Granberry Conference Center at 11 a.m.

Bank managers will lecture in several business classes during the day.

Morris, a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Alexandria, is best known among long-time fans of LSU baseball. In 1996 He punched a bottom-of-the-ninth, two-run, two-out homer that KO’d Miami 9-8. It’s still the only walk-off homer to win the College World Series.

Red River Bank personnel visiting LC classes is another “Industries Day” at the college, where local business leaders share their expertise and methodology with students.

Leaders from CLECO and Crest Industries also have assisted LC in this effort to expose students to more than classroom theory.

“We want to connect student learning outcomes to practical work skills by bringing practitioners into the classroom,” said Arthur Mazhambe, Chair, LC Business Division.

“Our students are privileged to hear the challenges, solutions, and varied issues encountered in management, marketing, economics, finance, accounting, human resources, and other aspects of business,” he said. “And business leaders are exposed to some of the most capable students in the region, thus opening the possibilities for internships,” Mazhambe said.

“Collaboration is the key to success in today’s world,” said Rick Brewer, president of LC. “Our ongoing ‘Industries Day’ strategy is beneficial to all involved, as our students get a detailed look at business practices, and local business leaders can assess the quality of our students.”

“I am grateful for the sacrifice of time and effort invested on behalf of our students by our friends at Red River Bank,” Brewer said. “And I want to especially thank Blake Chatelain, president of Red River Bank. His interest in Louisiana College extends beyond the bank’s employees lecturing in our classes, as he is a member of our Board of Visitors.”

Now 100 strong, LC’s Board of Visitors is comprised of alumni, business owners and other professionals and friends, whose generosity wholly and solely supports a scholarship fund for qualified students.

“President Chatelain and Red River Bank’s employees are a significant part of our effort to prepare graduates and transform lives,” Brewer added. “We look forward to hearing from them and from other businesses in our area in the days ahead.”

EASTER: When “empty” is good

By John Kyle, Special to the Message NASHVILLE, Tenn. (LBM) – “Empty” – it’s not one of our favorite terms. It’s not one of our preferred greetings. When someone asks you, “How are you doing?” you probably don’t respond by saying. “Empty, thanks for asking!” Yet emptiness is a common experience in our … Read More
