A week after Louisiana Baptists Convention messengers met to decide their annual
business, Baptist young people from across the state gathered to take care
of gospel business.
Some 4,000 youth met in Alexandria November 19-21 for the annual
Louisiana Baptist Youth Evangelism Celebration. The event continues to be the
largest Louisiana Baptist gathering of the year.
Without question, it also is the most energetic.
As in previous years, the recent youth celebration featured
high-energy music and presentations from Christian artists and bands; faith
testimonies from young people; and addresses designed to challenge Christian
teenagers to greater discipleship and to draw lost young people to personal
faith in Jesus Christ.
“The Youth Evangelism Celebration is … the greatest
‘front door’ for bringing lost teenagers (to Christ),” emphasized
Kevin Boles, youth and young adult director for the Louisiana Baptist Convention.
As in previous years, dozens of young people made decisions
during the three-day event, which focused on the theme of “Jesus.”
During celebration sessions, young people were given the opportunity to make
professions of faith in Christ as well as other decisions.
The intent of the conference – and its theme – was
to remind young people that Jesus is the answer in life and that God’s
help can make a difference in difficult times, Boles explained. “It is
amazing to see what people will do to find the answers to life’s struggles
and disappointments,” Boles pointed out, citing various efforts of individuals
to “hit it rich” and have all their problems solved.
“(But) The answers to life’s struggles and disappointments
are not fame or fortune,” he noted.
“The only answer is Jesus … period. In Christ is found
life but not just any kind of life – an abundant life.”
