Dr. Al Mohler describes the SBC controversy as being “Truth
vs. Liberty.” He cleverly places himself and those who believe as he does,
on the side of truth; his concept of truth, that is. He implies that those who
disagree with him are on the liberty side, and thus we reject the truth. In
my case, he is right. I do reject his imposing his concepts of truth on me.

According to Jesus, truth liberates me. Jesus said: “And
ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall set you free” (John 8:31,
KJV), which I assume Mohler believes is the true version. Jesus further said:
“If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed”
(John 8:36, KJV).
Paul added: “Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith
Christ made us free, and be not entangled with the yoke of bondage” (Galatians
5:1, KJV).
The freedom-liberty spoken about by Jesus and Paul was to be
released from the bondage of the multiple laws and regulations of the Pharisees
to be orthodox Jews.
Mohler adopts his version of truth and then tries to do away
with others liberty by requiring that we sign his (their) creeds and their
dictates. In so doing, we lose our liberty. Gods truth in Jesus Christ
has set us free from man-made assumptions that their truth must be imposed on
all others.
I, for one, reject outright Mohlers effort to distort
the truth for me and eliminate my freedom-liberty before God and again cast
me into a yoke of bondage.
