TLC opens 24-25 season with Wilde’s classic ‘Importance of Being Earnest’

August 29, 2024

By Cayden Walls, Wildcats Media

PINEVILLE, La. (Wildcats Media) – Theatre Louisiana Christian opens its 2024-25 season Sept. 5 with “The Importance of Being Earnest” by renowned Irish playwright Oscar Wilde.

The show is Wilde’s most celebrated comedy and often regarded as his magnum opus. First
performed on Feb. 14, 1895, the show has delighted audiences with its humorous story of
mild treacheries, hilarious confusions and endearingly flawed characters for more than a
century.

“I’m excited for this production, not only for my students but for the student body as a
whole,” said Professor Tabitha Huffman, artistic director of theatre, who plays the role of
Lady Bracknell in the production. “’The Importance of Being Earnest’ is a timeless classic
that many had to read in high school, and now they get to see it live. I love getting on stage
with my students every once in a while, and I am thrilled to play the part of Lady
Bracknell.”

The story follows Jack Worthing and Algernon Moncrieff, played by senior Joseph Johnson
and junior Cayden Walls. Both are dapper Edwardian gentlemen who shamelessly invent false personas to escape their responsibilities and follow their whims.

Unfortunately, living a double life has its drawbacks, especially when it comes to love. Hoping to impress two eligible ladies, the gentlemen find themselves caught in a web of lies they must carefully navigate.

“The Importance of Being Earnest” runs Sept. 7-8 and 14-15 at 7 p.m., and Sept. 9 and 16 at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Tickets are $5 for LCU students, faculty, and staff; $12 for senior citizens and non-LCU students; and $15 for general admission. Groups of 10 or more can attend for $10 per person. Visit https://www.purplepass.com/tlctiobe to get your tickets.
