METAIRIE – God works through the annual Fall Food Roundup to bless the children at the Louisiana Baptist Children’s Home.
Every year, hundreds of Louisiana Baptist churches collect groceries and other needed items to share with the Home. This literally helps to feed our children for the entire year!
Sometimes God works in unique and creative ways to provide for the needs of His children and to bless His Friendly competition creates ‘win-win’ for church, school, LBCH Memorial Baptist Church and Preschool, and Memorial Baptist Christian School in Metairie, collected all these food items, hygiene products and cleaning supplies for the Louisiana Baptist Children’s Home annual Fall Food Roundup. They also donated $850 to support day-to-day needs of the Home.people in the process.
Memorial Baptist Church and Preschool and Memorial Baptist Christian School in Metairie decided to go all out for this year’s Fall Food Roundup.
Pastor Dan Pritchett and School Principal Jerry Riggs led the way with some friendly competition. The church and preschool challenged the elementary school to see who could bring the most items needed for the roundup.
If the church and preschool won, Principal Riggs would spend the night on the roof.
If the elementary school won, Pastor Pritchett would do the honors. Preschool Director Lynn Johnston also declared a competition between each of her preschool classes, with the winner receiving an ice cream party.
Church members, parents, children and staff really got involved and took up the competitive challenge. Needless to say, Memorial’s Fall Food Roundup was a record-breaking success! God provided over 7,000 food items, hygiene products, and cleaning supplies for the Children’s Home through everyone’s efforts. And for lagniappe, $850 was donated to support the day-to-day needs of the Home.
Pastor Pritchett said, “We’ve never seen church members, parents, and kids get behind an effort like this in the history of the church. Our 3-year-old ‘Frogs Class’ led by Rachel Ehrman won the ice cream party for the Preschool by bringing in over 1,000 items. Lynn Johnston and her team of teachers led the pack as the Church and Preschool won the overall competition by donating 3,600 items, while the Elementary School donated 3,400 items.” When Children’s Home cottage dads arrived with the U-Haul truck, it took two hours to load all the items provided!
Because of the outstanding effort by everyone involved, Pastor Pritchett decided to join Principal Riggs and sleep on the roof. Memorial Baptist Church threw a huge party that night with a spacewalk, movie, and lots of food and fun to honor God in allowing them to be a part of His gracious
work. On Sunday, Oct. 7, the church held a special thanksgiving worship service to honor Jesus Christ for making all this happen.
Pastor Pritchett was extremely thankful for everyone’s generosity to the Louisiana Baptist Children’s Home. He said, “The children are the real winners! It is our desire to see these kids grow up in a Christian atmosphere and become godly men and women.”
When God’s people work together to help those in need to God’s glory, it is truly a “win-win” for God’s kingdom.
