Congress members, retired military generals ask Supreme Court to tackle Sterling case

February 15, 2017

By First Liberty Institute Washington – In an unusual occurrence in Supreme Court practice, seven parties have filed amicus briefs with the Supreme Court at the cert stage, asking the Court to take the case of Sterling v. United States. “It’s rare for a Supreme Court case to receive a single amicus brief at this stage, let alone seven,” Kelly Shackelford, President and CEO of First Liberty, says. “We’re blown away to see such a broad range of parties of such high caliber weigh in on this case to support religious freedom.” For more on this story, click here. … [Read more...]

Could it be that our efforts are having an effect? Vice President Pence thinks so.  When addressing the recent inclusive March for Life in Washington D.C., he said: “Life is winning again in America.” That is true.  No longer is a baby aborted every 20 seconds.  In fact, the abortion rate is at an all-time low. While we take joy in the downturn of the abortion rate, we are no less grieved and burdened about the murder of America’s unborn innocent citizens. How ironic it is that some who so desperately want to embrace the world’s political and socio-economic refugees would also staunchly and vehemently oppose the Constitutional right-to-life of the most helpless persons already in the United States: babies still in the womb. In this regard, Louisiana College is extremely grateful for a jurist of the calibre of Judge Gorsuch.  His nomination to the Supreme Court, I believe, is a bellwether of real hope and change for our nation, especially considering his opinions on Hobby Lobby and Little Sisters of the Poor.  Let’s pray for Judge Gorsuch in the coming … [Read more...]

Artemis II reminds all of us to look up

When NASA set a launch date for Artemis II all those months ago, there was no way of knowing that the world would be in desperate need of something so uniquely awe-inspiring. On a planet consumed by war, hate, tragedy, and lack, these astronauts are giving the human population a rare gift: the chance to focus on … Read More
