VIDEO: Trump opens up about God’s influence in his presidency

January 30, 2017

In a recent interview with the Christian Broadcasting Network, reporter David Brody asked President Donald Trump about his spiritual journey since becoming leader of the United States. Trump said he always has felt the need to pray. He added that the office of the presidency is so powerful the he needs God even more to make life and death decisions. “There’s almost not a decision that you make when you’re sitting in this position that isn’t really a life-altering position,” Trump said. “So God comes into it even more so.” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iqbxhNBKENU … [Read more...]

WAYLON BAILEY: Three ways not to pray

January 30, 2017

By Waylon Bailey Prayer is central to our faith. In fact, prayer seems to be a common practice of all peoples. Prayer is important because it’s essential to getting in touch with God. Even many atheists admit to praying in difficult times. If prayer is so necessary and important, are there ways we harm our times of prayer? Are there ways we should not pray? Let me give you three ways you should consider changing about how you pray. First, don’t pray negatively. In itself, prayer is a positive practice. It is a way of getting in touch with God and letting Him have control over our lives. This is, of course, a positive event. How do we make it negative? We do so by emphasizing what we don’t want to do rather than what we want to do. For example, let’s suppose you need to be more patient. You might pray, “Lord, help me not to be impatient and frustrated today.” That’s a negative prayer. A positive prayer might be like this, “Lord, help me today as I struggle with the difficulties of life. Help me to show the fruit of the Spirit in my life. Let me live in patience, gentleness, kindness, and self-control.” A positive prayer emphasizes what we want to do rather than what we don’t want to do. Second, … [Read more...]

‘Preaux-Life’ — 2000 Louisianians participate in D.C. March for Life

January 27, 2017

By Brian Blackwell, Message Staff Writer WASHINGTON, D.C. – More than 2,000 Louisianans joined 500,000 others from across the nation and world to stand up for the unborn in the 44th Annual March for Life Friday, Jan. 27. Ben Clapper, executive director of Louisiana Right to Life, told the Baptist Message that he was encouraged to see so many people brave the cold weather to march for life. “These brave warriors, most of them young people, send a strong message to our nation that life must be protected from beginning to end,” Clapper said. “Over 2000 Louisianians joined the crowd and brought the “Preaux-life” message to Washington DC.” During the pre-march rally, Vice President Mike Pence told the crowd he was humbled to become the highest ranking U.S. official to speak at the event. He said ending tax-payer funded abortions and appointing a pro-life Supreme Court judge are among the priorities of the administration of President Donald Trump. Pence encouraged all supporters of life to show compassion as they continue the pro-life battle. He encouraged supporters of the pro-life movement to show compassion. “Because of all of you and the many thousands who stand with us in marches like this all across the … [Read more...]
