By Staff, LBC Communications ALEXANDRIA – Louisiana Baptists are invited to submit names of nominees for service on state convention boards and committees and to submit resolutions for possible consideration for the 2011 Louisiana Baptist Convention. The Louisiana Baptist Committee on Committees is beginning its work to nominate persons to serve on various state convention committees. Currently, 19 nominees are needed for service on committees on Credentials, Louisiana Baptist History, Moral and Social Concerns, Nominations, Order of Business and Resolutions. Committee on Committees Chair is Richard Blue. In addition, the Louisiana Baptist Committee on Nominations is beginning its work to fill vacancies on state boards. At this point, 21 nominees are needed to serve on the Convention Executive Board and as trustees of Louisiana College, the Louisiana Baptist Children’s Home and Family Ministries, the Baptist Message, and the Baptist Foundation. Allbritton Annex, named for the head construction supervisor. The newly-opened facility was a three-bedroom house converted into three classrooms. Interior bedroom walls were removed and the carport was enclosed to make the new facility usable. New flooring, insulation, windows, lighting and exterior doors were installed to complete the project. The 2,400 sq. ft. facility will house potentially three Sunday school classes, one of which is now meeting in the fellowship hall of the church, and the 25-30 RA boys who meet on Wednesday and Sunday evenings. The facility has a kitchenette area for small fellowships and meetings. (BP) – Southern Baptist leaders are reacting to the news of the $145.6 million given through the 2010 Lottie Moon Christmas Offering with a mixture of gratefulness and hope for even greater sacrifice for the sake of sharing the Gospel.   The offering is $3 million less than the $148.9 million Southern Baptists gave in 2009, a 2.2 percent decrease, and $8.3 million less than IMB needs to meet its 2011 operating budget.   Offering receipts also fell well below the national goal of $175 million.   IMB President Tom Elliff challenged Southern Baptists that this is not a time for retreat.   “God says we are to totally cast ourselves upon Him for the purpose of reaching the nations,” Elliff said. “Our vision is every language, people, tribe and nation knowing and worshipping the Lord Jesus Christ. If that is the goal then it is worth me giving everything I have and everything I am to reach that goal. McCormack, NOBTS Communications   NEW ORLEANS (BP) – New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary’s Trustee Executive Committee added five new certificate sites, one doctor of ministry site, and five new curriculum options to the school’s academic catalogue June 7.   The Trustee Executive Committee also received a financial and enrollment update from seminary president Chuck Kelley and authorized the institution to partner with the International Mission Board to engage an unreached people group with the Gospel.   Trustees approved a total of five new degree options for New Orleans Seminary students during the June 7 meeting.[img_assist|nid=7447|title=NOBTS|desc=|link=none|align=left|width=640|height=427]   Korean students will soon be able to earn a doctor of ministry degree taught in their heart language. Hunter, Special to the Message   BATON ROUGE – The tiny congregation of the Myanmar Christian Fellowship has an urgent request for Louisiana Baptists; Please pray for peace in Burma.   The 30 or so members of the Fellowship, which meets in the “old” sanctuary of Parkview Baptist Church, got word over Father’s Day weekend that violence had broken out in the Northern Kachin State of their home country of Myanmar.   Tens of thousands of Kachin people, many who are Christian and Baptists from the pioneer work of Adoniram Judson, were being displaced from their homes and villages by the ruling military junta’s soldiers.   “A lot of our people are going to die,” said a very-concerned La Ma, one of the Fellowship’s leaders. “This is a very terrible situation. Almost all of us have friends and family there. The Chinese have closed the border so they can’t get away. We’re asking our fellow Christians and the Baptists of Louisiana to pray with us for peace.”   From midnight Saturday, June 18, until midnight Sunday, the Fellowship members joined nearly a half-million other displaced Burmese around the world in a 24 hour fast and prayer for their country. (BP)--The number of baptisms in the Southern Baptist Convention in 2010 fell by nearly 5 percent, according to the Annual Church Profile (ACP) compiled by LifeWay Christian Resources in cooperation with Baptist state conventions.   Southern Baptist churches reported 332,321 baptisms in 2010, down from 349,737 in 2009, a 4.98 percent decline. Total membership in 2010, reported at 16,136,044, represents a 0.15 percent decline from 2009 and is the fourth straight year of decline.   "I am saddened to see this report which seems to indicate a lack of passion for winning our world to the Lord," said Frank Page, president of the SBC Executive Committee and a former convention president. "That will turn around when we repent of our sins and seek the power of our Lord in our evangelistic efforts.   "I am convinced that we are doing many good things but will see this situation change only when the churches and people of the SBC return Evangelism to the top priority of our Kingdom activities," Page said.   Thom S.
