LCU revival: 15 students accept Christ

March 1, 2024

By Elizabeth Clarke, LCU News PINEVILLE, La. (LCU News) - At least 15 students accepted Christ as their Lord and Savior during Louisiana Christian University’s spring revival held Feb. 27-29 on campus. John Fream, pastor of Cypress Baptist Church, Benton, spoke from Galatians 5:16–25 each day and encouraged students never to give up the fight between the spirit and the flesh. Elevate and Voices, LCU’s musical ensembles, led worship during each revival service. “It’s a battle every day for Christians,” Fream said. “You’re either going to be controlled by your flesh or controlled by the spirit of God.” Once a person receives Christ, Fream said, he or she is justified. That means the spirit of God lives within you. However, Christians must continue to seek out things of the spirit to become more like Jesus. Fream said the flesh will continue to try to be in control as long as we live on the Earth. Whoever is the best “fed” will succeed, and “we can feed our flesh or our spirit.” He encouraged students to read the Word of God every day, seek God in prayer and attend church with other believers. “Don’t quit,” Fream said. “Through the ups and downs, ins and outs, Louisiana, the United States and the world need … [Read more...]

Why not,” said tlc Artistic Director Tabitha Huffman. “One of the characters in the play says, ‘I’ve always wanted to live in Alaska because it’s always snowing, and Santa was up there so it must always be Christmas!’  I saw ‘Reckless’ at a festival when I was a student in the ‘90s and fell in love with this very kooky, dark comedy.  I knew I would produce this play someday, but it wasn’t until now that I had the students that perfectly fit the roles.” On Christmas night Lloyd and Pooty Bophtelophti, played by senior music major Caleb Williams and senior theatre major Carmen Taffi, take in Rachel Fitsimmons, played by senior theatre major Colleen Andrews Williams. Forum: Student leaders encouraged to develop discipleship strategy for seniors

February 28, 2024

By Brian Blackwell, Baptist Message staff writer ALEXANDRIA, La. (LBM) – Student ministry leaders and Baptist Collegiate Ministry campus directors were motivated to develop a strategy to help them continue discipleship of high school seniors as they embark for college or the workforce during the Forum. Held Feb. 23 at the Baptist Building in Alexandria, the Forum featured encouraging messages from keynote speakers Brian Mills, pastor of Together We Church, Yukon, Okla., and Anthony Vargas, student pastor at Together We Church, and a time of fellowship for the 36 student ministry leaders and eight BCM campus directors. Louisiana Baptist Youth Strategist Lee Myers said many churches report that seniors “check out” of their youth group and church before graduation and he hoped the Forum provided some tools to help them bridge that gap. “This year’s event was targeted towards the great senior drop-off that happens each spring,” Myers said. We wanted to address the issue of 12th graders in our ministries checking out before they head off to college or the work force. It was important that we have that conversation as Louisiana Baptists. We want to lead seniors to finish strong and stay involved in church and collegiate … [Read more...]
