Former VP Mike Pence talks faith in Louisiana

March 20, 2023

By Brian Blackwell, Baptist Message staff writer DEVILLE, La. (LBM) – God still is at work in a time of conflict abroad, economic hardships at home and a steady assault on values and liberty, former Vice President Mike Pence told the congregation of Philadelphia Baptist Church, March 19. “Even when you don’t see it, He’s working,” said Pence, who served with former President Donald Trump, 2018-2022. “Even when things don’t make sense, He's working. I had other plans for these four years. You may have too. But never doubt that God is at work. And never doubt that the ministry of Philadelphia Baptist Church and churches just like it all across this state and nation are doing the most important work that’s done – loving God, loving others, and showing others God’s love,” a reference to the church's mission statement. Pence was the guest speaker during both Sunday morning worship services at PBC’s Deville campus, and after each service, he signed copies of his newly released book “So Help Me God.” Pastor Philip Robertson said Pence’s appearance at PBC came about through a connection between mutual friends. “We were honored that he would come and worship with us and share his testimony,” Robertson told the Baptist Message. “He was … [Read more...]

Here's what group leaders and campers have to say about the impact of camp: “Our group had an unchurched student who didn't even own a Bible attend camp. He accepted Christ this week. Our group is more unified than ever.” “God has shown me the importance of service and putting feet to my faith.” “God showed me it's OK to be who I am.” “During my week of camp, my leader taught me how to trust in the Lord and stay faithful.” “At camp, I got to paint houses with my friends and got closer to God.” I worked five summers of FUGE Camps and went on to devote my career for 23 years to this ministry because I am passionate about camp ministry and what the Lord does in the lives of campers when they get out of their comfort zones and turn their attention to Him. Why camp matters to kids, teenagers and parents Here are five reasons parents should send their child(ren) to camp and why kids and teenagers should want to be part of this experience. Encounter God in a personal way Summer camp can often be a spiritually life-changing event for kids and teenagers. They … [Read more...]

MLB pitcher contextualizes team’s Pride Night cap with Bible reference: ‘Gen 9:12-16’

A picture may be worth a thousand words, but sometimes just a few words can redefine a picture. While professional sports teams continue to put their players through the ritual humiliation of donning rainbow attire that espouses a pro-LGBT agenda in which many players do not believe, some athletes have turned to … Read More
