Credentials Committee: Messengers must register for annual meeting

October 8, 2020

By Baptist Message staff

PINEVILLE, La. (LBM)—In order for a church to be represented during the business portions of the Louisiana Baptist Convention to be held Nov. 10 in the Guinn Auditorium on the campus of Louisiana College in Pineville, it will need to elect messenger(s), who then must register and be certified by the Committee on Credentials.

Chairman Todd Free noted to the Baptist Message that there are five ways for messengers to register and be approved:

— The first and simplest way is for messengers to pre-register using www.LaOne.org and printout the registration card to bring to the annual meeting. This way allows messengers to be certified within a matter of minutes, Free said.

— Second, a messenger may bring a note on official letterhead signed by the pastor or church clerk, stating that the individual was elected by the congregation.

— Third, a church officer can phone in the names of elected messengers.

— Fourth, a person can be vouchsafed as a duly elected messenger by a fellow registered church member.

— Finally, when there is no other means by which to validate a person, a meeting of the Committee on Credentials may be called to make a determination.

Free emphasized that pastors are not automatically registered as messengers and said they must follow the same procedure as other messengers in order to participate in the business discussions and official votes of the annual meeting.

NOTICE TO CHURCHES

Due to current COVID-19 restrictions and social distancing requirements we ask messengers to make every attempt to pre-register, AND BRING YOUR CARD WITH YOU. Scanning the card you print out at home or work will result in fewer touches at the annual meeting site.

Pre-registration letters were sent Oct. 2. Please use the provided login information to pre-register your messengers at www.LaOne.org.

If you have not received your letter, or if you have questions about the process, please contact LBC Information Services by email (Messengers@LBC.org) or phone (318.448.3402 ext. 242 or 210).

Finding hope amid the pain

After a painful experience, hope often feels fragile. I have learned to allow joy to begin in small moments. It might be a bird singing outside a window, a kind word from a stranger or a sunset painted across the sky. I’ve had to give myself permission to smile when laughter comes, even if it feels unfamiliar. … Read More
