TLC presents ‘The Drowsy Chaperone’

March 9, 2026

By Kayla Condrey, LCU News

PINEVILLE, La. (LCU News) – Theatre Louisiana Christian will close its 2025-2026 season over the next two weeks with a musical that will transport audiences to 1928 in the show “The Drowsy Chaperone.”

The audience will feature senior Cayden Walls as the Man in the Chair, the narrator and lead of the show. This is the same role Walls was cast as in his sophomore year of high school.

“This show means the world to me,” Walls said. “I was actually supposed to be in the show when I was a sophomore in high school, but it got canceled because of COVID. I liked doing theatre before, but working on that show sparked my love for theatre, studying characters, learning choreography, and appreciating the artistry of it all. I probably wouldn’t be where I am today if it weren’t for this show and this role.”

With this show also serving as his senior capstone, he is the artistic director, choreographer, set designer, costumer and much more.

“I was expecting for myself, as well as the cast, to be overwhelmed, but really we have all just been having a blast and getting the work done efficiently!  I can definitely see the Lord’s hand in this production, he said. “He has made His work so abundantly clear.”

“The Drowsy Chaperone” is a musical that the Man in the Chair guides the audience through. It’s all about a glamorous, over-the-top wedding for this famous showgirl named Janet van de Graaff. She’s leaving her life on stage for a man she just met, and the jury is still out on whether or not people are happy about this decision.

The show is full of lovable characters who all have their own unique quirks. There is lots of dancing, impressive music and moments that are sure to make you laugh.

“The Drowsy Chaperone” runs March 12-14 and 19-21 at 7 p.m. with matinee performances March 14 and 21 at 2 p.m. in the Martin Performing Arts Center. Tickets are $5 for LCU students, faculty and staff; $15 for senior citizens and non-LCU students; and $20 for general admission. Groups of 12 or more can attend for $10 per person.

EASTER: When “empty” is good

By John Kyle, Special to the Message NASHVILLE, Tenn. (LBM) – “Empty” – it’s not one of our favorite terms. It’s not one of our preferred greetings. When someone asks you, “How are you doing?” you probably don’t respond by saying. “Empty, thanks for asking!” Yet emptiness is a common experience in our … Read More
