LCU announces Operation Christmas Child shoebox drive

October 29, 2025

By Elizabeth Clarke, LCU News PINEVILLE, La. (LCU News) - Louisiana Christian University's Operation Christian Child student ministry is collecting shoeboxes for distribution to children around the world this holiday season. This year, the goal is 300 boxes. “Last year our campus packed and sent out over 200 shoeboxes,” said Tabitha Huffman, project leader and LCU theatre professor. “This means over 200 needy children overseas received our gifts, but also heard about Jesus through The Greatest Journey discipleship program that is delivered wherever the boxes land.” On Oct. 28, Basit Hammad, a former shoebox recipient, spoke during LCU chapel service about what receiving a shoebox gift at age 13 meant to him and how much of an impact it can make in the lives of children around the world. Hammad grew up in a country where 98.8 percent of the population is non-Christian. LCU is one of three universities in the nation to be chosen by Samaritan’s Purse for sponsorship over the next two years. Through this, the organization helps provided materials needed to pack shoeboxes and will send full-circle speakers to spread awareness of the ministry. A full-circle speaker is an individual who received a box as a child. “When … [Read more...]

LCU Convergence Media Department unveils new podcast studio

October 29, 2025

By Elizabeth Clarke, LCU News PINEVILLE, La. (LCU News) - The Department of Convergence Media at Louisiana Christian University has unveiled a new podcast studio. “We’re very appreciative of the (Norman and Lorraine) Martin Family being willing to donate additional funds to LCU for us to be able to purchase the equipment,” said Al Quartemont, assistant professor of journalism. “It really has given us a modern studio that the students are already taking advantage of.” One of the biggest uses so far has been for classes in the Sports Media concentration and for the Wildcats Media Sports podcast. These podcasts are available through Wildcats Media social media pages. “We’ve been able to produce two new podcasts each week,” Quartemont said. “Seeing that podcasting has exploded in recent years, it’s exciting that we are able to give our students the opportunity to learn how to make a professional podcast as part of our overall Convergence Media curriculum.” One of those students is Danny Cobb, a junior sports media major, who plans to go on to work in national sports broadcasting. “Growing up, my grandpa got me into sports and learning sports stats,” Cobb said. “I love being able to share my knowledge of sports with … [Read more...]

MLB pitcher contextualizes team’s Pride Night cap with Bible reference: ‘Gen 9:12-16’

A picture may be worth a thousand words, but sometimes just a few words can redefine a picture. While professional sports teams continue to put their players through the ritual humiliation of donning rainbow attire that espouses a pro-LGBT agenda in which many players do not believe, some athletes have turned to … Read More
