Baton Rouge ministry attacked, Louisiana’s abortion ban halted

(LBM) – The Women’s New Life Center in Baton Rouge was vandalized, and an East Baton Rouge judge issued a temporary halt to the state’s abortion ban, July 12. CLINIC ATTACK Woman’s New Life Clinic (WNLC) is a professional medical and mental health clinic with locations in New Orleans and Baton Rouge providing free, nurturing care to women in unplanned pregnancies as well as additional low-cost women’s health services, such as STI testing and treatment, well-woman care, urgent gynecologic care, and more. According to a press release from Louisiana Right to Life, the clinic was vandalized “allegedly by Jane’s Revenge, a pro-abortion group that targets pregnancy centers across the country.” The vandalism consisted of spray-painting windows and signs in red with the number “1312,” the phrase “ACAB” (an acronym for “All Cops Are B—tards”), “fake clinic,” “not safe,” and “abortion is a right.” The Baton Rouge Morning Advocate reported, July 12, that Baton Rouge police officers were dispatched to the Women's New Life Center to investigate reports of the vandalism just before 6:30 a.m. According to Baton Rouge police spokesman Lt. Waites’ America’s Got Talent episode slated for July 12

By Staff PIONEER, Louisiana (LBM) -- Five weeks after announcing he was selected to be on the current season of America’s Got Talent, Christian musical recording artist Ben Waites shared that he will appear on next week’s show. A 2010 graduate of Louisiana Christian University, Waites posted on his Facebook page that the episode will air July 12, 7 p.m. on NBC. “Tune in to see what the judges have to say about me,” Waites said. Free program would make repaying college loans less stressful at LCU

By Staff, LCUNews PINEVILLE, Louisiana (LCUnews) – Louisiana Christian University is offering an innovative loan repayment assistance program (LRAP) that’s smart for students and families. LCU is the only university in the state with this type of plan to assist students upon graduation. LRAP helps graduates repay their federal student, parent PLUS and private alternative loans if their income after graduation is below $43,000. President Rick Brewer said all incoming freshmen may take advantage of LRAP at no cost to themselves. LCU has partnered with Ardeo Education Solutions to offer the LRAP at no cost to students or families simply by signing up upon registration. Admissions counselors will assist students and their families who are interested in the program. The assistance will continue until the graduate’s income exceeds $43,000 or until their loans are completely paid off. “We remain the only Louisiana university or college offering this unique loan repayment plan to 100 percent of our freshmen and sophomores,” Brewer said. “In light of the growing cost to obtain a quality, accredited college degree LCU’s LRAP program is timely, accessible and affordable.” For more information about the program or to … [Read more...]

Wildcats Media earns recognition at SPJ’s Diamond Journalism Awards

By Staff, LCUNews PINEVILLE, Louisiana (LCUnews) – Alena Noakes and Sam Miller were recognized for their work at the June 30 2022 Diamond Journalism competition. The regional competition, sponsored by the Arkansas Pro Chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists, honor journalism excellence among professionals and students from seven states (Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, Oklahoma, Tennessee and Texas. Noakes, a December 2021 graduate in convergence media-journalism from Grant Paris, won in the Student – Photo Portfolio. The judge commented her winning entry was a ‘fantastic collection of photos with a variety of subjects, lighting and techniques. Miller, a junior art major from Alexandria, took top honors in the Student – Graphics/Illustrations. It was LCU’s first-ever award for editorial cartoons. The judge said Miller’s entry “provided the right balance between disbelieve and side-snarkiness at a newsy topic that all can relate to.
