A meeting has been set next month to organize the Louisiana Baptist Argicultural
Missions Fellowship.
State convention leaders have set January 27, 2001, as the
date for officially establishing the new fellowship. The organizational meeting
is set at the Louisiana Baptist Building in Alexandria at 10 a.m.
The group is designed to promote Christian service by Louisiana
Baptists involved in the agricultural field, explained Buddy Day, who serves
as Louisiana Baptist Men’s Ministry director.
The state fellowship will operate with the Men’s Ministry
office and is open to any Louisiana Baptist, Day noted. No dues are required
for membership.
Nine specific objectives are set for the fellowship, Day said.
Once established, the state group will work to:
• Encourage farmers, professional agricultural workers,
veterinarians and others to learn more about Southern Baptist missions efforts,
especially those related to agricultural missions.
• Encourage persons to increase their missions support.
• Provide opportunities for persons to experience
hands-on involvement in agricultural missions projects.
• Provide a channel Southern Baptist missions leaders
may use to obtain professional and technical information and materials for agricultural
missions workers.
• Assist in filling missions leaders requests for
volunteer workers with agri- cultural and veterinarian experience.
• Encourage persons traveling throughout the nation
and overseas to visit locations where agricultural missions efforts are underway.
• Furnish seed, equipment, supplies, livestock and
other useful materials whenever possible and when requested by Southern Baptist
missions leaders.
• Provide an outlet for persons interested in agricultural
missions to fellowship with like-minded Christians.
• Work with other Southern Baptists in accomplishing
various missions ministries
The new state fellowship will work to support the missions
efforts of the Southern Baptist International and North American Mission boards,
Day explained.
A variety of means will be used to promote such support and
meet fellowship objectives, including meetings, workshops, publications and
special missions projects.
Persons who are interested in becoming a member of the fellowship
should contact the Louisiana Baptist Men’s Ministry office as soon as possible,
Day noted.
The office may be contacted at (800) 622-6549 or (800) 448-3402.
