Duck Commander’s Al Robertson to speak at C3 on pro-life issues

March 1, 2023

By LCU News PINEVILLE, La. (LCU News) – Al and Lisa Robertson will be the featured speakers for Louisiana Christian University’s third Christ Church Culture event of the spring semester, March 6. The Robertsons, who are from West Monroe and are best known for the popular TV show “Duck Dynasty, will speak about their work in pro-life advocacy rather than the show or the antics of Al’s famous father Phil Robertson, his uncle and three brothers. “LCU is pleased to host Alan Robertson for a C3 Seminar focused on pro-life initiatives,” LCU President Rick Brewer said. “His insight will underscore the commitment of the University to protecting the lives of the unborn consistent with our biblical foundation.” The C3 event comes nine months after the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade (a 1973 Supreme Court decision that legalized abortion), triggering a ban on abortions in Louisiana. But since Roe v. Wade was overturned there has been a significant decrease in pro-life activism, said Wildcats for Life President Abigail Shields, a senior management and marketing major from Deville. “This time is crucial because states are still implementing their responses to this change,” Shields said. “In order to reignite awareness on … [Read more...]

LCU C3 speaker: ‘You’re our best hope’ toward racial reconciliation

March 1, 2023

By LCU News PINEVILLE, La. (LCU News) – Robert Freeman challenged students during the Louisiana Christian University’s Christ, Church, Culture (C3) event, Feb. 27, to be the generation to bring about racial reconciliation by having authentic conversations with each other. Freeman, a nationally recognized speaker and facilitator on the issue, shared how a cultural and racial divide in the United States shaped his identity as a young man who grew up on the Mason-Dixon line, which is known as the boundary between the Southern slave states and Northern free states. “God surrounded me with people who were different from me to have conversations with,” said Freeman, founder of Robert Freeman Ministries. “Out the back door, it was the North, and out the front door was the South. I grew up on this Mason-Dixon line, and God has used me as an instrument of peace and reconciliation.” Freeman shared how he lost his mother as a teenager, and a family, she had worked for, filled the gap and treated him as their own. Alice and Edward Taylor (a white family) told him they felt led by the Lord to take care of him and at 16 he became a Christ follower. The Taylors, along with his high school cross country coach, later paid for him to … [Read more...]
