LCU to hold ribbon cutting for court honoring former basketball coach Rushing

By LCU News PINEVILLE, La. (LCU News) - The Central Louisiana Regional Chamber of Commerce will hold a ribbon cutting for the Gene Rushing Court in recognition of longtime Louisiana College basketball Coach Gene Rushing. In addition to the dedication, scheduled noon-2 p.m. Oct. 18 inside H.O. West Basketball Arena, the Legacy Award will be presented to Gene Rushing by LCU President Mark Johnson. Rushing, Class of 1970, served as the head men’s basketball coach from 1986 to 2015. Before that, he served as assistant coach from 1974 to 1986. He retired from LC with a head coaching record of 335-431 over 29 seasons. The Wildcat Spirit Award will be presented to Frank Ashley, Class of 1975, and Mike Haman, Class of 1996, will be recognized with a Distinguished Alumni Award. The event takes place immediately prior to the Gene Rushing Alumni Throw Down event, which is part of the LCU Homecoming festivities. … [Read more...]

LCU takes top speaker at MSU inaugural debate tournament

By LCU News PINEVILLE, La. (LCU News) - Louisiana Christian University Wildcat Debate Team took the first-place speaker’s trophy in the novice division of the inaugural MSU StarkVegas tournament at Mississippi State University in Starkville over the weekend. Jolie Dore’, a sophomore pre-law major from Lake Charles, took first-place speaker and advanced to the quarterfinals in the novice division. The MSU-hosted tournament featured teams from across the South, including the University of Arkansas, Southern Methodist University, Dallas Baptist University, Louisiana Tech and others. “We haven’t fielded a team like this one in a while,” Wildcat Debate Coach Brian Manuel said. “There is something special about this crew. They genuinely love to debate, and they are good at it. I look for the Wildcats to end the season ranked high in the nation and competing for a national championship.” … [Read more...]
